Ice Hockey!

We were totally this close!
Last night I got to go to my first ever ice hockey game! and it was a big one! It was a 40 year anniversary game so the stadium was quite full! We went to watch the Malmo Red Hawks on their home turf.

Now to watch a game like this you would expect to pay a pretty penny right? Wrong! It was only 40 SEK (incl service charge) to go and considering that is about the same price as sandwich or a beer in Sweden it's a pretty awesome deal!

We had seats quite close to the front so we got to see some of the action up-close...they really do like to smack each other into the sides and the players didn't seem too fond of each other in the least!

During the break

Some things we learnt at the game last night include:
  • Hockey games are split into 3 20minute sessions
  • They like to punt adverts at every opportunity
  • If you are on your side of the rink you are allowed to use your hands (who knew!)
  • Hockey players like to push each other around....a lot!
  • Players can swap in and out as many times as they like.
  • They are super duper fast!
  • They don't have to keep the goalie on the rink, they can swap him out for another player (a tricky move)
  • Players wear a lot of padding making their heads look tiny.
  • When in trouble some cheesy music is played before the player is put in the box to cool off for 2 minutes
  • Mascots are cool!
  • They still have nothing on Rugby players but look good doing what they do.
Despite being a very educational, thrilling and all round awesome experience the Red Hawks lost: But I bought a scarf to show my support and hopefully there will be another game nearby again!

Here are shortl videos I took....
