A hike in Söderåsen National Park

Knowing that my Jojo Summer Card was about to run dry I decided to make one last cool summer trip on it to Söderåsen National Park. I expected it to be pretty but no where near as diverse and as beautiful as it actually is.

There are numerous walking trails within the park and I decided to do the blue one (Korsskär-Liagårds trail) which is 7.4kms. It took me roughly two hours to complete the trail  (although the website says it should take 4 but I think that might include a stop for lunch) and I got to see everything from fairytale forests covered in moss to giant birch wood forests and wide views.

You start off at Skäralid and overlooking a beautiful lake before walking through a wonderland where you hear a stream of water and can see beautiful moss covered rocks and trees. There was one fantastic moment when I couldn't hear the stream so I stopped walking and I realised I couldn't hear anything. Not a tweet from a bird, no rustle of leaves, nothing. It was miraculous. I stood there and closed my eyes and my ears began to throb in the search for noise. Eventually it was broken by a bird tweeting in the distance. What a feeling!

After walking for sometime of the wooden pathway you reach a T-Junction for the yellow and blue paths. Thereafter the walking was a little more laboured as I walked on fallen rocks. Then there was a short climb and before I knew it I was at Liagården where an old farm house has been converted into a refuge cabin where you are welcome to stay overnight (for free!), camp around the house, use the toilets, or cook some lunch.

I didn't stay long but was fascinated by the fact that both entrance and use of these facilities were free!

Thereafter I got to get he giant birch wood forest which had massive trees which, one more than one occasion, made me stop and simply marvel!

If you enjoy the outdoors and have a free day. Going to Söderåsen National Park is a great option. After your hike you could always indulge in the restaurant or grill your own and just let the day pass you by!
