Around the Sound

Travelling around Sweden isn't the cheapest thing in the world. And wanting to go across the Oresund Bridge to get some of the action happening in Denmark is even more expensive. So what to do?

Make a trip of it!!!

Going via train return to Copenhagen from Lund will cost you roughly 216SEK but if you buy the Around the Sound ticket it will cost you 249SEK so why buy the Around the Sound ticket? Here's why:

  • You get unlimited travel in Southern Sweden and Denmark for a full two days
  • It's the perfect excuse to go away for the weekend
  • You get to take the train in one direction and the super awesome ferry in another
  • And, when the weather is good its amazing just how much you can see in two days!

When my friend Karolina was here we decided to make use of this pretty sweet deal and see how much we could see. This is what we managed to do:

Day 1

09:00 - 10:00 Make our way from Lund to Malmo to the Peninsula
12:00 -13:00 Walk on the beach at  Falsterbo Peninsula (So beautiful!)

13:00- 14:30 Travel to Copenhagen over the super duper long bridge
15:00 - 18:00 Walk around Copenhagen, buy a beer, and sit on a boat on the canal while sipping in and soaking in all the awesome vibes. Take note that you can buy a hop on hop off ticket for the canals which is valid for 24 hours!

19:00-20:00 Fest on a buffet at Scandi Cafe (Highly recommended!) Have more beer :)
20:30- 02:00 Meet friends and go on the Copenhagen Pub Tour... It was pricey but oh so fun (If you don't have money for the tour skip it and go to Billy Booze for cheap drinks)

02:00 Be glad you chose a comfy, clean place to sleep :)

Day 2

07:00 Randomly wake up far too early?? What's up with that?
08:00- 09:00 Search for bacon and eggs but come up empty handed.  Then spot an awesome brunch buffet (Yay) which only opens at 10am (aaah).
09:30 - 10:00 Opt to have a coffee until the buffet spot opens :)

10:00 - 11:00 Eat eggs, bacon and little sausages which are hopefully going to stop the onset of a hangover from our crazy night. The plan doesn't work. The sickness prevails! Time to leave before we start to feel sorry for ourselves.
11:00-12:00 Walk to the Rosenborg castle hoping to spot flowers in bloom (no luck) but walking around the city did wonders for our hangovers :)

12:00 - 13:30 Get back on the hop on boat and get off at Christiana the infamous part of Copenhagen where drugs, commercialism and tourists have a weird thing going on. Sit in an outside courtyard sipping yummy coffee.

13:30: Take another little trip on the canal and get off at the stop closest to the train station.
13:30 - 14:30 Train to Helsingor (A really beautiful trip!)
14:40 - 16:00 Walk around the sleepy little Helsingor. Spot a huge castle on the beach. Marvel at it! And love the fact that the sun is still high in the sky!

16:30 - 17:00 Take the super awesome ferry across to Helsingborg! This was my first every ferry experience and it totally rocked my world!

17:00 - 18:30 Find a small little pizza place, sit on the patio, have pizza and coffee while resting our tired feet and enjoying the wonderful weather!

18:45 - 20:00 Walk on the pier at Helsingborg while checking out the cool restaurants and boats

20:00 - 21:00 Get the train back to Lund!

And no, I am not lying! We did manage to do all of this in two days! And it wasn't crazy rushed or anything. Luckily because everything is so close together you can really see a lot in a small amount of time.

When I do it again I plan on staying in Helsingborg for a little longer and maybe heading to the island of Van! There really is sooooooooooooooo much to see in this little tip of Scandinavia and the Around the Sound ticket gives you the opportunity to do just that!

If, however, you are here during the summer months, hold out for the awesome summer jojo card which is valid for two months for a very reasonable 550SEK. This doesn't however include travel to Denmark so if you want to cross borders... I would HIGHLY recommend indulging in the Around the Sound ticket :)
